BIO

Unique Czech jazz accordionist Vojta Drnek belongs to the group of musicians who are constantly stretching the boundaries of what is expected of their instrument. Jiří V. Matýsek from Musicserver.cz described him as someone who “is able to move smoothly from role to role: from a soloist through a partner in a dialogue to a humble side-man. In all cases, he colors the music in specific shades and harmonic intersections.” He communicates with other musicians and audiences what he terms “simple, but powerful truths about life”. Leader of the critically acclaimed chamber jazz trio Treetop, he is an artist who inspires performers of all ages to change the perception of the accordion and to bring its unexplored sounds to the world of modern music.

He has appeared at the JazzFest Brno, and Jazz Goes to Town festivals, among others, and at many famous music venues, including Jazz Dock, Opus Jazz Club, and Donau115.

An accordion student from the age of 6, Vojta Drnek holds a Masters degree from the Janáček’s Academy of Music and Performing Arts, with two semesters at the Anton Bruckner Privatuniversität, Linz. He has performed & collaborated with Ori Jacobson, Phil Donkin, Aidin Esen, Didrik Ingvaldsen, Roland Dahinden, Marian Friedl, and multiple orchestras and theaters.

Vojta Drnek is also a manager and co-founder of Ma Records, a label for jazz, experimental and improvised music, works in the marketing department of Jazz Goes to Town festival and as a musical editor and assistant at Kurt Rosenwinkel’s label Heartcore Records.
