Richard Šanda - trombone Vojtěch Drnek - accordion Michal Šelep - double bass Recorded at Divadlo na Orlí http://studio.jamu.cz/en/ Cover by Vojtěch Drnek Drnek/Šanda/Šelep is a trio with an unusual sound which arises from combination of Trombone, Accordion and Double Bass. Trio is playing original jazz compositions written by its members. Players met each other while studying at the Jazz Department of JAMU, Brno, Czech Republic. Their music is bright and original, taking inspiration from modern jazz, avantgarde music and classical contemporary compositions. Richard Šanda is a trombonist and composer based in Prague. He gained his first experience with jazz in Chrudim where he was playing in local big bands. In 2013 he came to Prague to study at Jaroslav Jezek Conservatory. At that time he began to appear on on the Prague jazz scene in bands like Big Band of JJ Conservatory, Concept Art Orchestra or Czech Radio Big Band Gustav Brom. In January 2015 he was participating in recording an album with Concept Art Orchestra which was awarded as the Best Jazz Album of 2015 by the Czech Radio. It also won a Czech music award Anděl for the best jazz album of the year. In November 2016 he was nominated by the Czech Radio to took a part in Euro Radio Jazz Orchestra, as a leader of trombone section, that year led by Tommy Smith. At the moment he is studying at the JAMU in Brno in the class of Jan Jirucha and he is also performing with the best Czech and Slovak jazz musicians. http://www.richardsanda.com Michal Šelep is a Bratislava based double bass and electric bass player. Originaly from a small Slovak town Spišská Bělá. He has been playing bass guitar since he was 16. He started with playing gospel and funk/RnB oriented music and over time he has found his way to jazz as well. In 2011 he started studying bass guitar and music theory in the USA in the class of Anthony Wellington. In 2014, He received the first Fodera - Compito scholarship to attend the Victor Wooten Bass/Nature Camp in Nashville, where he studied with Victor, Anthony, JD Blair, Futureman, Steve Bailey, Chuck Rainey, Danny Gottlieb and others. After returning to Slovakia, Michal started studying music with legendary Slovak guitar player, Andrej Šeban. He is currently studying at JAMU in Brno in the class of Jiří Slavík. He has been playing with some of the finest Slovak musicians including Andrej Šeban, Martin Valihora, Marcel Buntaj, Peter Lipa, Zuzana Mikulcová, and many others. http://www.michalselep.com Vojtěch Drnek is an accordonist and composer and also a student of 2nd year of Jazz Department, JAMU, Brno in the class of Jiří Levíček and Vít Kříšťan. He is originally from Budišov nad Budišovkou. He gained his skills in classical music at Janaček Conservatory in Ostrava (2011-2016) where he was also an external accordeonist in both drama and musical scene of the National Moravian-Silesian Theatre. He was an accompanist of singer Hana Fialová. In Ostrava he was cooperating with local jazz scene. He was also very succesful in accordion competitions. Recently he is a member of many jazz projects (Portraits in Jazz, Marian Friedl’s Jazz Orchestra, The JazzCake) and he is also a member of Ensemble Opera Diversa. http://www.vdrnek.wixsite.com/drnek
